What could we do with 10 million dollars?

Thank you to everyone who submitted ideas, provided feedback, and supported this initiative. Based on the themes we identified from the community's input, we propose to use the $10 million to:

transform our downtown, collaborating with our partners and using enabling technologies, open data, and smart applications to solve safety issues and care for the needs of our vulnerable population, creating a welcoming city centre that attracts more businesses and visitors.

If it sounds ambitious, it's because it is! The Challenge requirements stated that our proposal had to be ambitious yet achievable and we believe it's just that.

With our municipal broadband network, CRadvantage, already in place, Campbell River is well on its way to being a smart city. But, winning the $10 million will certainly get us there faster.

Our full application can be viewed here.

Help us win.

Campbell River is competing against communities across Canada for 10 million dollars. How can we use connected technology like CRadvantage, our city-owned fibre optic internet, to create opportunity for current and future residents?

Submit your ideas below and contribute to your city's future.

Winning the Smart Cities challenge would:

  • Inject $10 million into Campbell River.
  • Change our city's path.
  • Create new opportunities and initiatives.
  • Build a brighter future for our community.

The federal government's Smart Cities Challenge aims to strengthen Canadian communities through innovative initiatives. It's about thinking big to identify significant, pressing, and perceived "un-solvable" problems, finding ways to solve them with connected technology and data.
